We are excited to improve the Mac Off-Campus user experience with a new development partner. Existing operations concluded on October 10th, 2023 and we look forward to relaunching the website in early 2024.
While we wait for the much anticipated Mac Off-Campus relaunch, McMaster has partnered with an interim platform to continue to offer this much desired service. Once details are finalized we will share instructions to get started posting ads.

Connecting McMaster Students With Potential Housemates

McMatch is an online platform where students can connect with each other to find housemates for their off-campus homes. Each McMatch user will create a public profile by answering a series of questions about their living preferences. From these answers you will be able to search other McMatch profiles and sort them based on compatibility.

Getting Started

  1. Log on to the Residence Portal using your MacID and click “McMatch” in the top left corner.
  2. Once you’re logged in, click “Start Here” to start your application. If you are continuing your application, click “Continue”.
  3. Carefully read the Terms and Conditions for McMatch and enter your student number to accept the terms.
  4. Complete your McMatch Profile. The profile contains 26 questions which you can preview here. The more questions you answer, the better chances you will have at finding an ideal housemate match.
  5. Once your profile is submitted, search for other McMatch users and find your match.

Once you have your matches you can reach out to those students to determine whether or not they’d be a good housemate fit. Students who decide to live together will need to search for off-campus accommodations. Please visit ** Mac Off-Campus Housing ** and sign in with your MacID to view available properties.

McMatch Questionnaire

The McMatch User profile contains 26 questions to help determine your living preferences and socialization styles. It takes less than 10 minutes to complete your profile.

Using these answers you’ll be connected to other students with compatible results.

Note: Please select “McMatch” from the menu bar to access the application. If you are on your mobile device log in and click the menu icon (3 lines) in the top left corner to expand the menu, then select “McMatch” to continue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you can. The residence application and McMatch are two separate applications. You can apply for both and choose the option that best suits you.

Please note that residence admissions will prioritize incoming first-year students who meet the guaranteed acceptance criteria. Not all first-year students will be able to live in residence. Upper-year undergraduate students are encouraged to explore off-campus housing options for the 2021-2022 academic year.

After completing the McMatch application, you will be provided with a list of housemate recommendations. Students on this list will have provided similar responses to you. From this list you can use search filters to further narrow down potential housemates.

If you are interested in contacting your another McMatch user, please reach out to them using the McMaster ID listed in their profile.

It is the responsibility of the student to make contact with any potential housemate matches through the system. McMatch does not automatically pair students for off-campus housing.

Contact information for potential housemate matches will be included in the list of individuals recommended by McMatch.

McMatch will provide you with a list of recommendations but that does not mean that every housemate recommendation on your list will be a perfect fit.

It is important that students take time to get to know their potential housemates so they can determine whether or not they want to live together. Students will be required to work through any conflicts that occur between themselves.

In a typical year McMaster residences will welcome around 3,900 first-year students to their on-campus homes, with approximately 60% of all first-year students living in residence.

Remaining first-year students and upper-year students are encouraged to find suitable off-campus accommodations.

Please note that due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, McMaster may limit residence capacity for the 2021-2022 year.
